With the temperatures rising to nearly 50 deg C, the scorching heat is sapping all the energy out of our bodies.
Follow these simple tips to keep the body and mind cool naturally:
HYDRATE! HYDRATE! HYDRATE!
That's the first and most important thing to do. Drink lots and lots of water. Quench your thirst with these cool summer drinks- Aam panna, , Buttermilk, fresh fruit juices, coconut water etc. Also include a lot of water rich fruits like watermelon, musk-melon, plums or mosambi. Avoid aerated drinks, preserved fruit juices, also soda since it dehydrates the body even more.
EAT RIGHT
Have frequent and small meals rather than just three big meals during the day. Include lots of green veggies in your diet. Reduce the intake of garlic, ginger and other foods that increase the heat production in the body. Mint coriander chutney can be added to your meals as its tasty and has a cooling effect on body. Eat seasonal fruits. Include cucumber in salad.
EXERCISE COMFORTABLY
It is better to exercise early in the morning as it is coolest part of the day. Avoid strenuous workout outdoors, stay indoors during afternoons when the temperature is at peak.
USE COOLING OILS
Sandalwood and Jasmine oils have cooling properties plus a very soothing aroma. Sandalwood is available in other forms like soaps and powders too.
COTTON AND COMFORT
Comfortable-fitting cotton outfits work best in the summer. Choose natural fabrics over synthetic ones, and pastel shades over dark ones. Comfortable footwear and a bright scarf for protection from the sun keeps you cool and trendy at the same time!
