Last month I have been seeing an unprecedented numbers of cases in clinic, so I decided to write a concise blog on flu, its symptoms, warning signs, how to prevent it naturally and homoeopathic approach to treating flu.

So, starting with the common symptoms of flu  :

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an infectious disease caused by an influenza virus. Symptoms can be mild to severe. The most common symptoms include: high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, sneezing, and feeling tired. These symptoms typically begin two days after exposure to the virus and mostly last less than 7 days.

Emergency warning signs :Call your healthcare provider or go to the emergency room immediately if you have any of these symptoms

Homoeopathy for FLU:

Now we all know that there is no conventional flu treatment except rest, fluids and the use of drugs to reduce fever and aches and pains.

Homoeopaths, however, have a whole different take on this illness and can provide effective relief from your symptoms both in the acute stages as well as afterwards. I have been seeing so many cases of post influenza symptoms: Fatigue, lack of motivation, general malaise & depressed feeling. Homoeopathic medicine is a constitutional prescription (you will recall that a  homoeopath treats you as a whole person with an individualised medicine for your case); and this will help you get back to your old balanced, energetic and positive self soon. And then you can say “Homoeopathy Rocks!”

Also , you can consult your homoeopath for a constitutional medicine during the healthy season so as to boost your immune system in advance and make your system less likely to be affected by flu and if it does, deal with it better and faster.

Few Tips to Prevent Flu Naturally:

Avoid Contact:

Firstly stay away from people who have symptoms as much as you can. Wash your hands after using public transport to prevent transfer of the virus. Stop any avoidable close contact with current sufferers/patients. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

Diet and Nutrition:

It’s important that your diet is high on healthy, unprocessed foods and low on sugar. Eat as much fresh green leafy vegetables as you can and foods high in antioxidants. Cut on gluten and avoid dairy products as they can make many of us prone to increased mucus production. Eat plenty of vitamin C rich foods since they boost immunity and increase mineral absorption too.
